Hormone Replacement Therapies (HRT)

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a medical treatment that replaces hormones the body is no longer producing in sufficient amounts. It can treat a variety of conditions, including menopause, thyroid issues, and growth hormone deficiencies. Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can ease symptoms and help men and women to improve energy, balance mood, increase libido and improve sleep. HRT involves taking hormones to replace those that your body has stopped making or doesn’t make enough of. For women, this is usually estrogen and progesterone. For men, it’s testosterone.

Pellets
  • Hormone replacement therapy pellets are small implants that release hormones into the bloodstream to treat hormonal imbalances. They are made from plant-based materials and are inserted under the skin. Pellets remain in for a specific number of days or months and gradually release hormones into your body. After the set number of time you will need to get another pellet to continue receiving hormones.

  • The pellets are small cylinders about the size of a grain of rice. Insertion of the pellet involves a minor surgical procedure performed in-office. The hormones in these pellets provide a steady dose of hormones over time, usually lasting between 3-6 months. This form of therapy is convenient because it requires minimal effort on the part of the patient. Unlike injections or oral medications, hormone pellets don’t require a daily commitment and can provide patients with consistent levels of hormones over time.

Injections
  • Injectable hormone therapy is one of the most common forms of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). As the name suggests, this type of therapy involves injecting a hormone solution directly into the muscle. Injections are often used to treat severe hormonal imbalances, and they can provide a rapid increase in hormones that may help relieve symptoms more quickly. However, injections require frequent administration and careful monitoring by a provider to maintain optimal levels of hormones in the body.

Oral Medications
  • HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) oral medication is a treatment that involves taking hormone pills to balance hormone levels in the body.

  • For women, it is commonly used during menopause to replace declining estrogen and progesterone levels, helping to relieve symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, and bone loss.

  • For men, it is often used to supplement low testosterone levels, which can occur due to aging or medical conditions, helping with energy levels, muscle mass, and mood.

*HRT should always be taken under a provider's supervision, as it may have risks and side effects.
